Leopold G. Blackman was a twentieth century renaissance man of sorts. He was an educator, writer, soldier and briefly, a convicted felon. He also played soccer. After moving to Hawai‘i from his native England, Blackman became one of the earliest promoters of the sport on the islands. He was instrumental in creating Hawai‘i’s first soccer community.
